Working Definition of Nanotechnology:

- Nanotechnology is the use of matter on a molecular and atomic scale used in medicine, sports, and electronics


Application of Nanotechnology:

- Nanotechnology is being applied in medicine.

- Nanotechnology is being applied in sports. Nanoparticles are used to strengthen athletic equipment and make them last longer. With the application of nanotechnology, sports equipment is more durable. By improving the equipment athletes' performances are also getting better.

- Nanotechnology is being applied in electronics. Nano-electronics are becoming more advanced each day by creating ways of using nanotechnology in electronic memory storage, novel semiconductor devices, displays, and quantum computers. Scientists are creating ways of making electronics use less energy and smaller devices that hold more memory.


Uses of Silver Nanoparticles:

A. Medicine:

1. Employing nanoparticles to deliver drugs, heat, light, or other substances to different types of cells

2. Aluminosilicate nano-particles quickly reduces bleeding due to trauma- absorb water; clot blood

3. Nanoparticles inhaled stimulate an immune response to fight respiratory viruses

B. Sports

1. Strengthens tennis racquets by adding nanotubes to the frames to increase the strength and power of the racquet when you hit the ball.

2. Makes the uniformity of the shaft part of a golf club better so your swing is improved

3. Limits the amount of air that is released by a tennis ball so the ball keeps its bounce longer.

C. Electronics

1. Silver Nano-particles are used to efficiently harvest light to create more enhanced tools for scientists.

2. Silver Nano-particles are used as a method of running super-fast processors and storing data.

3. Silver Nano-particles are used as an ingredient for ink in ink-jets to enhance electric conductivity.

Drawback to Silver nanoparticles:

- Even though Silver nano-particles have many positive things about them, they do have a few drawbacks. One drawback to using Silver nano-particles is they can kill benign bacteria and harm living organisms by disrupting certain metabolites and enzymes in the environment.
